A huge thank you to everyone who attended our VIBE at 5 event to celebrate local veterans and thank them for their service. More than 60 people signed in, and I was able to have several conversations with veterans about their time in the service. It was neat to be able to hear stories directly from the people who lived them. Thanks to the Chamber for their help with the event, as well as Like Mother Like Daughter for the cookies, Captain RedBeards for the cocoa and coffee and Reverie Wedding and Events for the flowers.
Our America at War exhibit will remain in place until February 2024. If you’d like to visit but aren’t sure quite what to expect check out our virtual tour here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxohcVfv2ws We are now scheduling school tours and are available for private outside hour tours if requested. Feel free to reach out through our website for more info! We survived the Grand Opening! Around 70 people showed for our 9am-12pm program on October 28th and we were thrilled! Lots of people seemed super excited, even showing up right at 9am! Several veterans introduced themselves to me, and we even got offers for more military items to be donated.
Speaking of – we are accepting donations. To donate items to the museum please reach out to us using the information on our contact page so we can set up a time for you to come by. A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Grand Opening and an even bigger thank you to all those who helped me get the space ready in time! It was quite the adventure! On to our next project – we will be hosting VIBE at 5 on November 16th, from 4:30-6PM. It is the Thursday after Veteran’s Day and we are inviting veterans to share their stories so if you’re a veteran or know of a veteran who would be interesting in sharing their stories, answering questions and is available to be at the museum on November 16th please reach out to me via our contact page! No big speeches required – just if you’re interested in talking to people about your time in the service, we’d love to have you aboard! CALLING ALL VETERANS! If you're a veteran and interested in sharing your story or answering questions from museum visitors please reach out to us via our contact page - we would love to have you in attendance for Vibe at 5 on the Thursday after Veteran's Day. We will have a hot cocoa bar plus patriotic treats! YORK – It’s been a true labor of love inside the walls of the Anna Bemis Palmer Archives and Classroom building in downtown York. Inside those walls, Carrie Remmers and volunteer Sue Leif have been hard at work, going through many boxes holding the museum’s collection. And along the way, they started to find so many military-related items the first public display suddenly became evident.

Welcome to the official blog for the Anna Bemis Palmer Museum, or the Anna Bemis Palmer Classroom and Archives, or the Anna Bemis Palmer Collection.
We go by many names, but all have the same goal, and that’s to share the history of York and surrounding counties. In fact, we have items in our collection, not only from surrounding states, but surrounding countries as well! The collection has grown rapidly over the years, but began with Anna herself, collecting and maintaining historic items in her own home. When you visit you’ll see items ranging from Civil War belts, to keys to the first building erected in Nebraska, to shoes worn on the Great Wall of China. There are so many items of so many categories that we plan to rotate themed display just to give each one their time to shine. So come visit us. Celebrate the history of York county and maybe learn a little along the way. |
