UPCOMING PROGRAMMING

​To go along with our History of York County display the museum is hosting several informational presentations based on institutions vital to York. The first of which took place in November and was about York University. It was led by Chair of the History department, Jared Pack, and we had 41 people in attendance. When asked how many attendees were linked personally to the University most hands went up. It was great to hear Jared speak about the history of the University and we all learned a lot. Who knew the college was shut down due to a fire and came back as it did entirely because of a ten-cent phone call?! Dr. Pack was a great speaker and very engaging. He fielded many questions and even brought several items relating to the University to be put on display for the day. Attendees also got to partake in some hot chocolate and themed cookies made by local bakers, Like Mother Like Daughter Sweet Treats.
 
The museum is now looking forward to two more presentations, with the possibility of adding another in February. So far, the plan is to host Tony Bestwick, York’s Fire Chief, on December 14th (Saturday at 2PM) where he will present on the history of the York Fire Department. The museum will also have extended hours that day, opening at 10AM and staying open until the conclusion of the program. We then plan to host Deb Robertson – Kilgore Memorial Library Director – on January 12th (Sunday at 2PM) where she will present on the history of York’s public library. Both of these presentations are free and will include complimentary refreshments.
 
We look forward to hosting Tony and Deb and are open to suggestions about another presentation for February. So far suggestions have been the York News-Times and the radio station.
